THE PIOPOLIS CULTURAL COMMITTEE
To honour our traditions and pay tribute to those who have made them.
- To implement cultural activities of high quality at reasonable prices.
- To promote new activities for the Lac-Mégantic region.
- To support other local organizations in achieving their goals within the community.
- To carry out certain educational missions of cultural interest such as:
- Providing support to young talented artists
- Initiating the public to musical instruments
- Music in health centers
Music within the health institute program was started in 2015 by setting up an initiation to the musical accompaniment of sick and/or at end of life patients. This formation was given to musicians within the region in collaboration with the « Maison La Cinquième Saison » of Lac-Mégantic. The cultural Committee has therefore set up, with the financial support of the MRC du Granit and a contribution from the Committee, this program to encourage and re-numerate musicians offering performances in various health facilities in the region for the greatest joy of residents, their families and support staff. In 2015, 15 musical performances were offered by 7 artists from the region in 7 MRC health facilities. This program has been renewed in 2016.
- Scholarships available to music students for the purchase of instrument
By 2015, a program of scholarship in collaboration with the “Foundation Festival du Lac Massawippi” was set up. Each of the five students from secondary III, IV and V of the Polyvalente Montignac in Lac-Mégantic received a purse of $500 for the purchase of their musical instrument. In 2016, this program has been renewed and increased to support 7 students receiving a purse of $ 500 each for the purchase of their instrument as well as 2 students who received a purse of $ 250 each for classes in signing and studio.
Established in 1999, the Comité Culturel de Piopolis Inc. was intended to have impact on the small community of Piopolis as well as the entire Region of Lac-Mégantic. At the start, our purpose was to organize cultural activities for the local population with the hopes of attracting visitors from the entire Eastern Townships. Our main achievement has been Le Festival Saint-Zénon-de-Piopolis, which has since become an annual event.
In the beginning, a group of sixty (60) founding members participated in the creation of the Festival by personally contributing a sum of 200$. To this day, over one hundred activities have taken place, mainly concerts, through which more than 1000 artists have performed in the local church, l’Église St-Zénon de Piopolis.
Our main objective has always been to promote high quality cultural activities at an affordable price. Until now, we have been able to do so thanks to the continued support of our sponsors, partners, donors and enthusiastic team of volunteers.
